A double shot of espresso with hot water. The ‘Americano’ specifically is Italian for ‘American coffee’. The name has its origins in World War 2 when American G.I.s in Europe would dilute espresso with hot water to approximate the coffee to which they were accustomed. Similarities can be drawn between this and a standard cup of drip coffee, but the Americano offers a more complex taste being it has a fresh shot of espresso pulled for its base.
